Finding Your Balance: Practical Wellness Tips for Busy Expat Women

Ever feel like autopilot? Pushing through to the end of each day in a whirlwind? It’s easy to become so focused on ‘getting things done’ that a whole week (or more) has passed without ever appreciating or taking anything in. But fear not, because today, we’re diving into some down-to-earth wellness practices that can help you find your balance, even in the midst of the daily grind.

  • Mindful Mornings: Start your day off on the right foot by carving out a few minutes for yourself. Whether it’s savouring a cup of herbal tea (I’m a matcha kinda gal, don’t judge), doing a quick meditation, breathwork or sitting in the sunlight: setting aside time for mindfulness can help you approach the day with clarity and calm. I’m talking about 2-3 minutes, maximum 5 if you can manage, it’s doable!
  • Movement as Medicine: Let’s face it – life throws us curveballs when it comes to staying active. But finding ways to move your body, even in small ways, can work wonders for your mood and overall well-being. Whether it’s dancing around your living room with the kids, taking a scenic stroll with your podcast or audiobook,  a 15 minute online yoga session, or trying out a local fitness class, find what feels good for you and make it a priority.
  • Nourish from Within: With so many delicious culinary temptations in our new surroundings, it’s easy to get carried away with indulgence. But remember, food is fuel – and giving your body the nourishment it needs can help you feel your best. Incorporate plenty of colourful fruits and veggies into your meals, stay hydrated, and indulge in moderation. There are so many delicious recipes online that will allow you to try something new and tasty. Your body will thank you for it!
  • Embrace the Power of Connection: With so much focus on adjusting to new surroundings, it’s easy to overlook the power of real connections – both with yourself and others. Take time to prioritise meaningful conversations, whether it’s catching up with a friend back home or sharing a heartfelt moment with a fellow expat. Building strong connections can provide invaluable support and companionship as you navigate the ups and downs of expat life.
  • Prioritise Playtime: Self care doesn’t always mean scented candles and bubble baths. Take a cue from your inner child and make time for play! Whether it’s singing from the top of your lungs in the car, getting creative in the kitchen, or learning a silly dance, giving yourself permission to play can do wonders for your mental health and overall happiness.

Remember, finding your balance is a journey. Building new habits takes time but allowing yourself a few minutes each day can make all the difference.
